Donald W. Mortensen, age 70 of Big Falls, passed away unexpectedly Friday, June 10, 2011. He was born July 22, 1940 to the late Norman and Vera (Dumke) Mortensen, Sr. in North Fond du Lac, WI.
Don attended UW-Madison for two years before transferring to the Marquette School of Dentistry. After his term there, he joined the Army and served in Korea. Upon his return to the United States, Don attended the University of Indiana to obtain his orthodontics degree. In 1971 he established an orthodontic practice in Neenah, and was only one patient away from full retirement. He contributed to his community in multiple capacities at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, the Lion’s Club, and the Freemasons. He shared his love of the outdoors with everyone.
Don is survived by his three children: Erik (Nicki) Mortensen, Amy (Pete) Wade, Kirstin (Chad) Magnuson; grandchildren: Annika, Kaia, and Brekka Mortensen, Isaiah and Elijah Wade, Drew and Ben Magnuson, and the mother of his children, Jini Mortensen. He is further survived by his brothers: Norman (Judy), Jr. and Richard (Barbara), as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 18, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at Faith Christian Center, 939 Bowen Oshkosh, with Reverend Mike Magnuson officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service. A memorial fund will be set up to provide all donations to the Wisconsin Lion’s Camp in Rosholt, WI.
