Serena E. Bornick, age 95, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 10, 2012 at Garrow Villa of Brillion. She was born April 23, 1916 to the late Henry and Martha (Bruss) Utke. On June 25, 1938, she married Karl Bornick.
Serena will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, and in her free time enjoyed cooking and baking. She also liked to partake in bingo, cards, and other games. She was a Neenah resident for most of her life and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and their Women’s Circle. She was a former employee of Camera and Card in Neenah, and was also a member of City Homemakers.
Serena is survived by her daughters: Carla (James) Mertens, Brillion; Chris (Randy) Larson, Plant City, FL; grandchildren: Steven (Teresa) Mertens, Green Bay; Sara (Matt) Shivers, Celina, TX; Melissa (Brian) Rice, Appleton; Erin (Chad) McLeod, Tampa, FL; Jesse Larson, Lakeland, FL; great-grandson, Owen Mertens; and two more great-grandchildren on the way. She is further survived by her nephews: Michael (Margo) Crook, Hortonville; Richard (Kelly) Crooke, Wind Lake; sister-in-law, Florence Crook, Muskego; and a cousin, Everett Janke, IL.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Karl in 2006; her brother, and her infant brother and sister.
A funeral service for Serena will be held Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Neenah, Rev. Tony McKenzie officiating. Visitation will be at church from 9:00 A.M. until the hour of service.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
The family would like to extend a warm thank you to the nurses and staff of Garrow Villa for taking good care of Serena.
