GEORGE HENDRICKS

George Joseph Hendricks, 64, passed away on March 30, 2012 with his wife and daughter by his side, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on December 1, 1947 to George and Christina (Kelley) Hendricks. George spent much of his early life with his grandmother Mary and beloved uncle “Doty” on their farm in rural Prairie du Chien, WI. George met Vicky Lynn Russell in August of 1975 and they were married on December 30, 1978. Their daughter, Christina, was born in 1980.

George graduated from the University of Wisconsin Stout in 1971 with a B.S. in Business Administration and went on to manage a rental car firm in Pompano Beach, FL before returning to Wisconsin to work for Advanced Transformer in Boscobel, WI. After 10 years, George accepted a position with Menasha Corporation in Neenah, WI where he served as Division Operations Manager for 18 years. In his retirement, he spent two years as the Executive Director of the Crawford County Opportunity Center where he was committed to making a positive impact on the lives of local residents. Throughout his career, George worked diligently to help others succeed by serving as a mentor and sharing his expertise.

George was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers who loved to tailgate and attend games at Lambeau Field with his daughter Christina, whom he affectionately referred to as his “little bug.” He indulged his love of the outdoors by hunting with family, fishing, woodworking, and gardening. He enjoyed spending time traveling with his wife and daughter as well as relaxing at home where he filled much of his spare time with projects around their house. Over the years, George was a reliable and knowledgeable resource for many neighbors, family and friends. He found happiness in doing anything he could to help those around him and enjoyed sharing his knowledge with others.

George is survived by his wife Vicky (Russell) Hendricks of Neenah, WI, his daughter Christina Hendricks of Madison, WI, a twin brother James (Maureen) Hendricks of Prairie du Chien, WI, his mother-in-law Camilla Russell of Prairie du Chien, WI, and many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother Christina, father George Sr., sisters Mary Lou (Hendricks) Manning and Patricia Hendricks, grandmother Mary Hendricks, uncle Joseph “Doty” Hendricks, father-in-law Al Russell, brother-in-law Frank Mezera, and sister-in-law Marie Russell.

He and his family would like to thank the team at University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison for their relentless efforts and compassionate care including doctors Baskaya, McFarland, and Howard and their associates, as well as Agrace Hospice of Madison, WI, All Faiths Funeral & Cremation Service of Madison, WI, Westgor Funeral Homes of Neenah, WI, Garrity Funeral Home of Prairie du Chien, WI, and The Horseshoe Tavern of Wauzeka, WI.

The first visitation will be held in Neenah, WI on Wednesday, April 4th, 2012 at Westgor Funeral Home from 4-7pm. A second visitation will be held in Prairie du Chien, WI on Friday, April 6th, 2012 at Garrity Funeral Home from 4-8pm. A celebration of life in honor of George will take place at The Horseshoe Tavern on Saturday, April 7th, 2012 beginning at 1pm.

In lieu of flowers, any gifts will be donated to the Carbone Cancer Center at the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison in George’s name.
