Russell E. Gullickson Jr., age 85, of Neenah, passed away on Saturday evening, April 14, 2012 at Vallhaven Care Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 17, 1926 in Neenah, son of the late Russell Sr. and Eleanor (Erickson) Gullickson. After graduating from high school, Russell proudly served his country with the U.S. Navy during both WWII and the Korean War. On September 7, 1954 he married Eleanor Westphal, and the marriage was blessed with one son, one daughter, and 57 wonderful years. Russell was employed by, and held many positions at Kimberly Clark over 44 years. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Neenah, and American Legion Post 33. Russell loved baseball, both the Brewers and The Cubbies, bowling, fishing, and driving his van in the country. He was especially intrigued by old barns and churches, and of the Amish lifestyle. He enjoyed the Kick-A-Poo Valley, had an affinity for dogs, and loved his “Norwegian Gasoline,” otherwise known as coffee.
He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Eleanor; his daughter, Kay (Tom) Lauer; granddaughters: Katie Knepfel, Anne (Paul) Swanson; great granddaughter, Isabella Swanson; as well as nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Russell was preceded in death by his son, Ralph; and sisters, Ruth and Marilyn.
The Funeral Service for Russell will be held on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church (200 N. Commercial Street) with Rev. Paul L. Holte officiating. Friends will be received on Tuesday evening from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Neenah’s Westgor Funeral Home and again on Wednesday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service directly at the church. Russell will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery, where full military honors will be performed.
