Obituary

Hilda Renner, of Neenah, age 98, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, March 11, 2013, after a long, beautiful life. She was born September 19, 1914 in Neenah, daughter of the late Herman and Esther (Otto) Stahl. Hilda attended a one room school in 1918 called Lakeview School, and later graduated from Neenah High School. Hilda spent her childhood on a farm and later in years, cleaned homes to make money. She was also employed at Western Union after moving to San Francisco. Hilda married Arthur Johnson and they had one child together. Then in 1947 she married Steve Renner and they had two children together. Hilda and Steve enjoyed traveling out west and their yearly trips together up north to go fishing, as well as to St. Louis to visit Stevens family. After 1983, she started volunteering at Theda Clark Medical Center with the auxiliary and enjoyed marching in parades with them. Hilda loved attending church regularly at Trinity Lutheran Church of Neenah, where she was a strong member of faith from the early 1980s up until her death. She was a former member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Menasha for many years. Hilda continued traveling into her late 80s, enjoying her yearly trip to Florida to spend time with her son and grandson. One of her favorite things in the last four years of her life was her weekend visits with her great-grandson, Logan. Hilda liked watching him grow, and especially playing the achoo game with him. She enjoyed gardening, playing cards, watching the Neenah Community Band play, reading, cooking the worlds best buttermilk beef and pies, spending time with her weekly sheepshead card club, the homemakers club, and making beautiful quilts and afghans to share with her family and friends. Hilda will be remembered for her love for her family, her kindness to those in need, her boisterous laugh and her question of what did you go and do that for? whenever you contracted a cold, the flu or injured yourself in a silly way. She will also be remembered for humor, her smile and her inability to drive and eat an ice cream cone at the same time. Survivors include her children: Frederick (Janet) Johnson, Donald (Darlene) Renner; five grandchildren: Christine Leitzke, Steven (Suzanna) Johnson, Melanie (Bryan Herman) Nimmo, Sommer Johnson-Loar, David (Megan) Renner; seven great-grandchildren: Alex and Haley Nimmo, Benjamin and Jacob Wojcik, Jacob Hughes, Logan Loar, Irelyn Renner; a cousin, Herbert Kruse; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Steve; a daughter, Kathy; a granddaughter, Jennifer Wojcik; a brother, Walter; three aunts: Helen, Martha and Hattie; and an uncle, Ernie. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, March 14, 2013 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 407 Oak Street, Neenah, with The Rev. Tony McKenzie officiating. The visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. In my darkest hour when I have become tired, I seek the Lord for the comfort I require. I do not fear death; in Heaven I will be Along with the Lord and family passed before me. Do not cry; do not weep. God is beautiful, I am finally in peace.
