No matter what we were doing, from painting walls to going shopping, I knew Aunt Bertie was going to make it an adventure, and I knew I was going to have fun. She had a way of making anything and everything exciting. I have missed her laughter and joy, and hope her spirit now is free to have more adventures wherever it decides to roam.

When I was a child, I heard that Bertie was coming to visit and was disappointed when a person showed up instead of a little bird. That was the only time I was not excited to see her. Bertie was always so full of enthusiasm and fun. Her laugh and love for life was so infectious. We will miss her.

One day many years ago, there was an unexpected dinnertime knock on our door. Bertie was there with a bag of fast food and her lively smile. She said she wasn't planning on visiting us, but when she got in the car, she decided to keep going. She wasn't at all phased by driving the 1,500 miles from Neenah, WI to Naples, FL. Yes, Bertie was full of energy and enthusiasm. Bertie could accomplish most anything such as quickly preparing delicious meals, preparing lessons for her elementary students, or planning lively activities with friends and family. There are many memories of Bertie to treasure.
