Obituary

Douglas Bruce Barnes, 89, of Neenah, WI, passed away June 23, 2023, after a short illness. He was born on April 25, 1934, to Ralph and Margaret (Douglas) Barnes in Neenah, WI.

Doug graduated from Neenah High School in 1952, he went on to study at the University of Wisconsin Madison, where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. Doug served his country in the United States Army from 1956-1959, where he was able to travel in Germany and Italy with his dear friend, John.

Doug then started his career as a bank examiner for the State of Wisconsin which allowed him to visit many cities and historical places. Taking his nieces and nephews to historical venues all across the country was something he greatly enjoyed. He was a big fan of Wisconsin Badger football and basketball teams. Over the years, he took his nieces and nephews to as many Big 10 Badger games as he could which would also include a trip to a local museum. Collecting coffee mugs and refrigerator magnets from his travels was a hobby he enjoyed. He was also an avid new addition stamp collector.

Uncle Doug will be remembered for his amazing generosity. He gave freely of his time, energy, knowledge and supported anyone in need. Doug was quirky, funny and easy to love. He truly was a servant leader to his family, and nothing made him happier than spending time with any one of them.

Doug is survived by his beloved nephews and nieces: Steve and MaryBeth Barnes, Neenah, Paula and Bryan Hacker, Appleton, Don and Claudia Nelson, Nevada, Steve and Ming Nelson, California, Tim and Karen Nelson, Maryland, Tom and Linda Nelson, Florida, and Kristal and Chuck Moseley, California.

He is further survived by his Great nephews and nieces: Emma, Brian, Oren, Avi, Josh, Hannah, Christopher, Emily, Saede, Augustus, George, Haley, Alyssa, Addison and Carson.

Douglas was preceded in death by his parents: Ralph and Margaret Barnes. His brothers: Ralph and Chuck Barnes. His sister: Alice Nelson and his great nephew, Zachary Nelson.

A private family service will be held.
