HARRISON STURGIS

September 10, 1929 - November 26, 2022

Obituary

Harrison Sturgis, Jr. passed away peacefully on November 26, 2022 at ThedaCare Hospital in Appleton.  He was born on September 10, 1929, in Neenah, WI, and was the oldest of four sons of Harrison & Hazel (Erdmann) Sturgis.  He graduated from Neenah High School in 1947.  He served in the Army for one year and then worked at Bergstrom Paper prior to starting his own business.

In 1954 he married Bette Schafhauser and they raised their five children in Harrison's former grade school (Vining) on Oakridge Rd. in Neenah.  Bette preceded him in death in 2009.

For 30 years Harrison owned and operated Dyna Kleen, an industrial and residential vacuuming service.  He also obtained his real estate salesperson license and pursued real estate development of land in the Town of Neenah that he purchased from his parents.  In his younger days he enjoyed playing softball, basketball and he bowled until he was 89 years old.  Later in life he got involved in Town of Neenah politics, until he realized that most people had little interest in local government.

In 2012 Harrison reconnected with a former high school classmate, Sylvia Manteufel Spaulding, and they were married that December.

Harrison is survived by his second wife, Sylvia and her family, his five children, Dr. Laura Sturgis, Honolulu, HI, Dr. Mark Sturgis (Mary), Webster, MA, Mike Sturgis, Neenah, WI, Lisa Sturgis (Joe Jackels), Kaukauna, WI and Tina Radosevich, Warren, OH, 13 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, a brother, James Sturgis, and a brother-in-law, James Schafhauser.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bette's parents, Herman & Anna Schafhauser, two brothers, Jack Sturges and Jerry Sturgis, in-laws, Gertrude & Harold Krueger, Paul & Mildred Schafhauser, Beatrice Schafhauser, and LaVern Sturgis, and niece Linda Kasten.

In accordance with Harrison's wishes, a private funeral service will be held.  In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Harrison's name.
