HELEN HUNTINGTON
July 19, 1925 - April 18, 2024
Obituary
Helen Evelyn (Moe) Huntington, affectionately known as "Meeno" to her grandchildren, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2024. She was 98 years old.
Helen was born on July 19, 1925 to Olaf and Carrie Moe in Eleva, Wisconsin. After graduating from Eau Claire High School, she went on to study education at UW-Eau Claire. On August 6, 1955, she married the love of her life, Hobart Huntington. Helen, the youngest of the Moe girls, followed in the footsteps of her three older sisters and pursued a career in education. Starting out teaching in a one-room schoolhouse, she went on to teach for 28 years at Barstow School, Putnam Heights Elementary School, and Arlington Heights Elementary School. Helen's love and passion for teaching impacted countless students, as well as inspired her three daughters, niece, and two of her granddaughters to pursue careers in education.
Family meant everything to Helen. She was the mother to three beloved daughters: Natalie, Nanci, and Heidi. She loved and adored her nieces and nephews. However, her most cherished role came later in life when she became "Meeno." There wasn't an important event in the lives of her grandchildren that she missed.
After retirement, Helen's adventures continued. Whether it was weekly breakfast dates with retired teachers, bus trips with her husband, monthly road trips to visit her grandchildren, activities at the senior center, or being actively involved in her church, Helen was always on the move. She can be remembered for her immaculate appearance, biweekly hair appointments, and her keen sense of style.
Helen is survived by her daughters Natalie (Edward) Towle, Nanci Huntington, and Heidi Huntington; her treasured grandchildren Jordan (Lynessa), Shanna (Johney), and Meagan (Brandon) Towle, Amanda and Justin (Jill) Geissler, Rachel and Brice (Abby) Enright; nieces and nephews Patricia Fritschler, Gloria (Dennis) Nielsen, Kent (Janice) Schmidlin, Greg (Andrea) Schmidlin, and Ronald (Lynette) Pederson; many great nieces and nephews, and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her adoring husband; her parents; siblings Esther (Jack) Garnett, Mildred (Casper) Schmidlin, Charles, and Pearl Moe; sister-in-law Mahala Mozejewski; mother- and father-in-law Isabelle and Myron Huntington; and niece Sharon Pederson
