Julietta Ann (Rossey) Sabish

Julie, Judy, Jules, Etta, Ethel, Mom, Grandma, Gma… whatever name you called her didn't matter - she was always the same amazing human…. kind, loving, smart, funny, full of faith, always giving grace, and radiating joy.
Born on Feb 3, 1940, “Judy” - daughter of Laurence and Hildegard Rossey - was the youngest of three and the only girl. Constantly teased by her older brothers Billy and Jimmy, Judy learned to hold her own and began her life of a strong, independent woman.
Julie married Ed in July of 1965. Her career was as a nurse but then became a mom, which was her first true calling. Mom raised three kids - Kate (Bob) Geenen, Mary (Bobby) Greene, and Jim (Mary) Sabish. She continued as a nurse and also spent time in a fabric store until she followed in her father's footsteps and became a banker. Her second - and her favorite - true calling was as Grandma or Gma. Annie, Bryan, Frankie, Davis, Stephen, Joseph, Jonathon, and Katharine know honest, true love thanks to Grandma. She incessantly asked about each of them and when talking with them wanted a full update of what was going on in their lives. Conversation was never about her - always, always about them. Her grandkids were her pride and joy and she loved them more than anything.
There are so so many other “kids” and “grandkids” that called her mom or grandma, even though it wasn't by blood…. because that's who she was. She invited in her brother Fr. Steve's friends as her own brothers; she asked about Bill's kids and stayed in contact with Cis after his passing; she made sure Kate, Mary, and Jim's friends had a mom if they needed one; and when the grandkids brought their friends around, they of course also called her Grandma because that's exactly who she was to them.
Mom loved to play cards, garden, volunteer, read, make her infamous sugar cookies, and pray the rosary. She was an avid sports fan. Whether watching the Brewers, climbing the stairs of sec 131 in Lambeau to cheer on the green and gold - and certainly losing her voice in the process - or following the Badgers, she was a true Wisconsin fan. Her absolute favorite season was March Madness - cheering for the college teams her grandkids went to school at or the underdogs to pull off an upset. She also watched the high school games on TV and would have a schedule written down for which games were at what time and on which channel. Mom loved her sports!!
Mom, you were one of the good ones. You were an absolute child of God and through your work, His work was here on Earth. Your generous heart, your compassion for others, and your faithfulness will never be duplicated - but we're sure going to try!
We are so grateful for the community around us that helped mom - and us - through these difficult months. Green Bay Oncology & St Vincent Oncology, your amazing work gave us extra time with her. To our friends and family, and the friends we call family, thank you for encouraging and visiting her, checking in, and holding us up. From the bottom of our hearts… thank you. We can only use words to tell you how grateful we are, but will share our gratitude with others to pass it on.
A Celebration of Life will be held upstairs at Greene's Pour House (134 W Wisconsin, Neenah) on Sunday, April 21 from 4-7 pm. Please wear your favorite sports team attire and join us for a casual gathering. A memorial mass will be held at St Mary's Parish (312 S State St, Appleton) on Monday, April 22 at 10:30 am.
Mom specifically asked not to have flowers but rather two choices - in her honor, make a donation to the charity of your choice or send a plant that can be replanted at the lake.
We love you and will miss you, 5CRNSQN.
