EDWARD PICKERING

On the morning of September 3, 2013, so many people lost a wonderful friend! Edward M. Pickering died of natural causes at his home with his loving wife by his side. He was close to 89 years old. Ed was born in December of 1924 in Midlothian, IL and raised in Chicago. He was the son of the late Rev. Edward F. Pickering and Ruth Ella (Schwartz) Pickering. Ed was honorably discharged on November 24, 1945 from the 8th Air Force after 25 missions on a B17 as a tail gunner during WWII in Europe, stationed in England. His stories about the war and his experiences were unimaginable. Ed returned to Chicago and started Pickering Tool and Die and in 1957 a Manufacturers Rep. for Dovan Division of Appleton Machine. He travelled the USA for them until the early 1960s, then went to Stanford, IL where he brought in his brother, David Pickering, and as partners, represented several paper converting companies in the Midwest. Early 1980s he started Pickering and Pickering Web Converting Equipment here in Neenah, WI. After several years, he closed the business and went back to being a manufacturers rep, finishing his career and being remembered as an industry leader. Ed was married in 1947 to Irene Trusas and was blessed with a daughter, Ellen. In June of 1965 Ed married Marianna (Heuer) Pickering, the union was blessed with one son, Matthew, and 48 wonderful years. Ed is survived by his beloved wife, Marianna; his daughter, Ellen D. Pickering Sullivan, South Elgin, IL; his son, Matthew E. (sp. Friend Chris Frye) Pickering, Hastings, MN; grandchildren: Colleen (James) Clapper, Lawrence (Michelle) Sullivan, William (Theresa) Sullivan; great grandchildren: James, Joshua (Lucia), and Jessica Clapper; Madilyn, Jacob, and McKenna Sullivan; Emily, Bradley, Kristen, and Isabelle Sullivan; his brother-in-law, Jim (Pat) Heuer, Green Valley, AZ; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, George and David Pickering. The friends who are left to mourn can only say that Ed was one of a kind. R.I.P. Dear Friend. The Funeral service for Edward will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Neenahs Westgor Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Huff officiating. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service. Interment will immediately follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery, where full military honors will be performed. The family would like thank Dr. Christine Newton for her special care and friendship throughout the years, and also the staff of ThedaCare at Home Hospice for their special care.
