Obituary

Nancy A. Hoelzel, 74, of Neenah, WI, passed away on July 14, 2025. Born on July 18, 1950, to Angeline and Edward Smarzinski, she lived in the Fox Valley her entire life. She graduated from St. Mary's High School. She married her loving husband, John Hoelzel, April 10, 1970, and enjoy 55 wonderful years together.

Nancy was an avid golfer and quilter. She made hundreds of quilts and gifted countless to friends and family. One of her greatest projects was the Grandmother's Garden Quilt that she finished after working on for almost 30 years. She also enjoyed fishing and deer hunting. She and John frequently travelled to their cottage and in the winters, they loved to travel to the beach, most commonly Golf Shores, Alabama. She also loved wine and to taste test the dozens of gallons made by her boys.

She is survived by her husband, John; her sons Eric (Renee) and Peter (Carrie Diedrick); grandchildren: Joshua Hoelzel, Catherine (Patrick) Witkowski, Taylor (April) Broehm, Chantay (Nick) Riedle; great-grandchildren: Oliver, Axel, Michael, Aryana, Nikita, Renee, Destiny, and Ethan; sisters Carol (Rick) Perkins and Pat (Larry) Schulze; Sisters-in-law: Susan (the late Arnold) Enz and Sally (John) Wiberg; Brothers-in-law: Joe (the late Maureen) Hoelzel, Jerry (Kerry) Hoelzel, James (Donna) Hoelzel, the late Jeff (Becky Hoelzel) Hoelzel, Jan (Darla) Hoelzel, Steve (Laurie) Hoelzel, and Stuart (Patty) Hoelzel. Nancy is further survived by countless nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Angeline and Edward, her sister Marilyn (the late Bill) Schermitzler; and her daughter-in-law Kerry Hoelzel.

A memorial service will be held Saturday July 26, 2025, at 12:00 pm at Neenah's Westgor Funeral Home, 205 W. Doty Ave, Neenah, WI 54956. A visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the time of service.

My family and I are saddened to hear of Nancy’s passing.  She was such a light to every life she touched.  Growing up and watching the friendship she had with my mom will be memories I will always cherish.  I know my mom will be waiting for her to give her a big hug.  I can hear them laughing already.
