JOHN GALEAZZI

John Donald Galeazzi, age 81, passed away surrounded by his loving family after a brief battle with Hodgkins Lymphoma on Friday, April 18, 2014 in Menasha. He was born on December 20, 1932 in Kingsford, MI; son of the late John and Vivian (Van Pae) Galeazzi. On May 4, 1957 he was united in marriage to Evelyn Whisman at St. Mary Catholic Church, Menasha and on April 12, 2000 he lost the love of his life when Evelyn preceded him in death. John honorably served his country with the U.S. Army for four years. He worked with the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier in Menasha for 33 years and made many lifelong friendships along his route. John was a recipient of Menasha's MAC award and was very involved with Youth Sports in Menasha. He coached Youth and Legion baseball as well as coaching St. Mary's High School baseball for five years. Over the years, he loved babysitting for his grandchildren and attending their school and sporting events. He also enjoyed woodworking with his close friend, Doug, playing cribbage and spending time with his friends at Briarwood Cottages. He will be deeply missed by his children, John (Debbie) Galeazzi, Menasha, Lori Apitz, Menasha, James (Jodi) Galeazzi, Greenville and Bruce (Beth) Galeazzi, Appleton; grandchildren, Gina Galeazzi and Tyler (sp. friend, Breana Mudrock) Galeazzi, Jim (Megan) Apitz, John Apitz, Tanner and Taylor Galeazzi and Mackenzie and Jacob Galeazzi; brother, Albert Galeazzi, Iron Mountain, MI; sisters in law, Linda Galeazzi, Shirley Galeazzi, Nancy Wells and Marva Shaw; brothers in law, Donald (Janell) Whisman and James (Jean) Whisman and former son-in-law, Patrick Apitz. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Evelyn Galeazzi, ten brothers and sisters and brothers and sisters in law. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 528 Second St., Menasha. Family and friends may visit at Menasha's Westgor Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service to be held at 7:00 p.m. and again on Wednesday at the church from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Menasha. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established. John's family would like to express their sincere gratitude to ThedaCare at Home Hospice, especially caregivers, Mary, Kelly, Liz, Noonie, Jeanne and Claudia for their wonderful care and compassion.
