Daniel L. "Merle" Immel, 69, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center Neenah with family by his side. He was born in New London WI on October 4, 1956, the son of Norman and Bonnie (Schultz) Immel. Dan graduated from Fox Valley Lutheran High School, class of 1975. He went on to attend UW Fox Valley Center Menasha where he was the program director for the school’s radio station. He then finished his Bachelor's degree at UW Oshkosh. Dan worked at the Kaukauna Times, West Bend Daily Newspaper, Oshkosh Northwestern, and the Post Crescent where he was the district manager. He also worked at WAPL for a short time as DJ “Dan Adams” in the evenings.
Dan loved music, sports, 30+ years being "The Commish" for the Fantasy Football League, trivia, and karaoke, among other things. He played many sports and one of his proudest moments was bowling a 300 game. He especially loved spending time with friends and family. The members of FVL class of 1975 were such a blessing to Dan. After 50 years since graduation, they were still a constant part of his life, be it golf outings, Brewers' games, concerts, boat rides, and trivia nights to name a few.
Dan is survived by his daughter, Lauren (Jason), who was the light of his life. He is further survived by step children, Katie and Mason Boone; former wife Stephanie Flanagan; sister Diane (Dan) Ciske, brother Jim (Sherri) Immel; nephew Adam (Carri) Ciske and their children Nolan, Lu, Ryan, and Tyler; niece Rachel (Travis) Swick and their children Fredrick and Charles, niece Kayla Immel and nephew Paul Immel.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents, Wilford and Retta (Loos) Immel and Ferdinand and Lillian (Schroth) Schultz, and several aunts and uncles.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 at Trinity Lutheran church, 407 Oak St, Neenah, on Saturday January 31st . Visitation from 9:00 until time of service.
Dan's family and friends would like to thank the doctors and nurses especially the hospice staff at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center Neenah for their wonderful care and compassion.
