Obituary

James H. Mueller, age 86, of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, passed away at Mercy Oakwood Hospital in Oshkosh. He was born on April 22, 1939, in Menasha, Wisconsin, and lived in Oshkosh for most of his life.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, Herbert Mueller; his mother, Vivian Mueller; his brother, David E. Mueller; and his beloved wife, Tinh Mueller.

He is survived by his sons, Herbert W. Mueller (Jen Mueller) and David B. Mueller; his former daughter-in-law, Jennifer (Fern) Mueller; and his grandchildren, Meagan Mueller, Ava Mueller, and Alex Mueller.

Jim was a proud Vietnam veteran and a 20-year retired United States Navy serviceman, serving as a Chief Petty Officer and Seabee. During his service, he was also a boxer and often said he traveled the world twice—a time he truly enjoyed and spoke about with pride. Following his military career, Jim worked for many years as a powerplant engineer at the Winnebago Mental Health Institute, where he later retired.

What mattered most to Jim was spending time with his family. He also loved fishing for walleyes and wood carving. He spent many years fishing with the Otter Street Fishing Club, now known as Battle on Bago. Though he always targeted walleye, he became well known for mastering the art of catching sheephead on Lake Winnebago.

Jim was known for being generous with compliments, but he also wasn’t afraid to give you a hard time when it was warranted—a trait many will remember with a smile.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Country Villa in Omro, Primrose in Appleton, Bella Vista, and Mercy Oakwood in Oshkosh for their care and support during the time he spent there.

In lieu of a funeral service, an honor guard procession will take place in the spring.
