Obituary

Richard Lee Van Straten, age 87, passed away peacefully with loved ones at his side on February 24, 2026. Richard was born in New London, Wi on November 5, 1938, to Clark and Nona (Wachlin) Van Straten. After graduating from Shiocton High School, Richard started his career at Kimberly Clark, where he proudly worked for 42 years, until his retirement. After retirement Richard worked at Morton Pharmacy for 12 years until he fully retired and enjoyed life to the fullest. Richard married Kathleen on September 29, 1982, and spent 43 wonderful years together until her passing in October 2025. Richard was the nicest, most generous person and loved spending time conversating with everyone whether at the grocery store, post office, bar, event or at home.

Richard is survived by his children Chad (Nancy) Van Straten, Bridget Van Straten, Jeff (Shelly) Van Straten, and Mark (Jeanne) Van Straten, grandchildren Markus Potratz, Chad Jr Van Straten, Annabelle Van Straten, Adilynn Van Straten, Mason Van Straten, Chace Schuh, Taylor Van Straten, Alexis Evans, Alyiah Patschke, Demetra (Frank) Schadt, Holly Van Straten, Starita (Jeff) Krysiak, Tammy (Tim) Verbeten Cloutier, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

Richard is further survived by his siblings Tom Van Straten, Jackie Waterstradt, John (Lucy) Van Straten, Jane (David) Reinke, sister-in-law Cindy Girolamo, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and in laws.

Richard is preceded in death by his wife Kathleen Van Straten, parents Clark and Nona Van Straten, mother-in-law Irene Steies, brothers Joe Van Straten and Gary Van Straten, sister Jeanne VanderZanden, brothers in law Gary Waterstradt and Jim Girolamo, sister-in-law Janice Van Straten, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and in laws.

The family would like to thank the staff at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center Neenah for their compassionate care in his final moments as well as the many doctors, nurses, and staff who assisted Richard throughout his life.

Dad and Grandpa, no matter where life takes us, you're with us always. And though you're gone, your love remains. It lives in the way we face challenges, in the lessons you taught us, and in the quiet strength we find when we need it most." WE LOVE YOU!
