Obituary

Patricia L. Dehart, 70, of Neenah, Wisconsin, lived with unwavering determination and conviction. On her own terms, she brought an end to her struggles and departed this life, joining her beloved parents in eternal peace. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, professionalism, friendship, and service to others.

Pat dedicated more than three decades of her life to serving the people of Wisconsin through her work with the Wisconsin Department of Health Services at Winnebago Mental Health Institute. Primarily working on the Youth Services Unit, she was widely recognized as an expert in her field and earned the respect and admiration of colleagues throughout the Psychology Department and the Institute as a whole. She briefly served with Outagamie County Crisis Services as well. Pat was a gifted communicator, talented writer, and true wordsmith whose attention to detail and commitment to excellence were evident in everything she produced. Her professional integrity was unwavering, and she held herself to the highest standards throughout her distinguished career. Most importantly, she approached her work with deep compassion and genuine concern for those she served.

Pat attended Appleton East High School, where she was an active member of the drama club, sharing that experience with fellow alumnus and future actor Willem Dafoe. She continued her education at the University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh, earning both her undergraduate and graduate degrees in psychology. During her undergraduate years, she fulfilled a lifelong dream by studying abroad in London, England, an experience that fueled her enduring love of British history and culture.

Music was one of Pat’s greatest passions. A talented musician, she served as organist for Sacred Heart Church in Appleton for several years and was also an accomplished guitarist, proudly owning and playing her cherished Martin 000 guitar. She was a devoted fan of The Beatles and enjoyed sharing her love of music with others. Pat also sang with the White Heron Chorale, where her voice and enthusiasm enriched countless performances and friendships.

Retirement did not slow Pat's dedication to service. She volunteered extensively at the Juliane Farrow Museum within Winnebago Mental Health Institute, spending countless hours archiving historical records, conducting research, and assisting museum curators. She became deeply involved in efforts to identify previously unmarked graves associated with the institution, helping to preserve the dignity and history of those who had long been forgotten.

Outside of her professional and volunteer pursuits, Pat found joy in many interests. She enjoyed sewing, had a fascination with classic automobiles, and was passionate about history. She devoted considerable time to researching her family's genealogy, always eager to uncover new stories about her ancestors. She was a loyal Green Bay Packers fan who rarely missed a game, and she delighted in watching paranormal programs and unsolved mystery shows. An avid walker and enthusiastic traveler, Pat especially treasured her trips to England and Ireland. She also loved bringing people together, frequently organizing and attending gatherings with friends and coworkers.

Pat will be remembered for her intelligence, kindness, compassion, dedication, and remarkable sense of humor. Her quick wit, thoughtful conversations, and genuine interest in others enriched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her legacy lives on through the countless individuals she helped throughout her career, the friends she cherished, and the family she loved.

She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all whose lives she touched.

Pat was preceded in death by her father, Earl, in 1974, and by her mother, Veronica in 1988. She is survived by her brother, Dave; as well as by many cherished friends. A gathering to celebrate Pat’s life will be held at a later date.

Please consider a donation in Pat’s name to St. Jude’s, Attic Theater, or St. Margaret Mary Church.
