Obituary
Donna Jean Hoelzel, 74, of Neenah, Wisconsin, passed away on July 7, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Donna was born in Neenah to Donald and Virginia Berrens.
Donna married the love of her life, James Hoelzel, on July 24, 1971, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Menasha. Together they shared 55 years filled with many happy memories and hobbies, including gardening, fishing, and playing cards with friends.
Her faith was central to who she was. A devoted member of Peace Lutheran Church, Donna lifted her voice in the choir, filled the annual bazaar with her homemade jams. She also generously gave her time to countless volunteer efforts in the church, Bethesda thrift store and spent many hours helping in the libraries of local elementary schools.
For many years she led as a Girl Scout troop leader, shaping young girls with patience, encouragement, and a good deal of fun along the way. Her dedication was recognized when she was nominated for Outstanding Young Women of America for her work with the Girl Scouts.
Donna is survived by her husband, James Hoelzel; her daughter, Jennifer Hoelzel Bouhram; her son, Dan Hoelzel (Julia); her sister, Barbara Kaun (Fred); and her six grandchildren, Alyx, Leif, Youssef, Abigail, Isaac, and Paige, who brought her endless joy. No grandchild’s concert, play, or sporting event went unattended if Donna could help it. She was always there, loudly cheering them on.
Donna will be remembered for her smile, her outspoken and lively spirit, and her genuine love of a good conversation. She never met a stranger she couldn’t chat with. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched in Neenah, at Peace Lutheran, and in the hearts of her grandchildren, who she loved without measure.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Peace Lutheran Church in Neenah. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., service at 11:00 a.m., with a luncheon to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Peace Lutheran Church Choir in Donna’s memory.
