Obituary
Vernon A. Johann, age 99, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, August 26, 2026. He was born August 11, 1927, in the Town of Harrison, son of the late John and Gretchen (Merget) Johann.
Vernon grew up and worked on the family dairy farm in the Town of Harrison. He later owned and operated his own dairy farm, which he ran successfully until his retirement.
Vernon married his true love, Marlene Pottner, on February 4, 1961. He was a very hard worker and enjoyed working in the fields. He was also a self-taught jack of all trades. There was nothing he couldn’t fix. Vernon was gentle and kind and never had a bad word to say about anyone. He enjoyed taking his children to church picnics, county fairs, and farm shows, as well as taking many trips with Marlene during retirement. He was happiest when surrounded by his family. Vernon also had a sweet tooth like no other, and we know he is eating Drumstick ice cream cones in heaven.
Vernon will be remembered for his quiet strength, generous heart, love for life’s simple joys, and deep love for his family.
Vernon was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Menasha.
Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Marlene; four children: Dave Johann, Bob Johann, Amy Sedo, and Steve Johann; and a grandson, Rutger Sedo.
Vernon was preceded in death by a son, Mike; two brothers: Orville and Alden; a sister, Jeanette; and a daughter-in-law, Jenny Johann.
The Mass of Resurrection will be held at 11:30 AM on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 324 Nicolet Blvd., Menasha, with Fr. Matt Settle officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of Mass. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Parish in Menasha in Vernon’s name.
