Obituary

Sandra L. Wahamaki, age 80 of Neenah, passed away early Monday, August 31, 2026 after a courageous fight with multiple medical issues. Sandy was a beloved wife, mother, grandma, partner and friend. She was born January 25, 1946 to the late Raymond and Alice Manning. Sandy grew up in Oshkosh raised by her mother. She married Warren Wahamaki on August 26, 1967 and together they created a family they lovingly raised in Hubertus, WI.

Sandy was a hard worker from early on. At 10, she started caregiving and housekeeping. That’s where her life long journey as a mother began. Sandy was taken under Mrs. (Ruth) Scharpf’s wing where she learned and mastered household chores while she lovingly cared for the 4 Scharpf boys. The family continued to be special to Sandy throughout her life, including Mr. (Ray) Scharpf walking her down the aisle on her wedding day. Later Sandy worked as a personal banker for many years at the Richfield, WI branch of BMO Harris before retiring and eventually relocating to Neenah. She lived out her strong faith as an active member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. There she enjoyed baking treats and serving for the their Coffee House program that fed and nurtured many local students, as well as participating in many other volunteer opportunities, including Meals on Wheels. Sandy delighted in spending time with family, especially her greatest pride - her grandchildren. She often told people how proud she was of her daughters. Sandy was a friend to many because she was open, caring and always brought light, warmth and a smile to every place she entered. Other hobbies she loved were fishing, feeding and watching birds, gardening and traveling. She made a mean Old Fashioned and loved to share one with friends.

Sandy is survived and will be missed dearly by her daughters: Amy (Brian) Dresen, and Kristen (Craig Callen) Wahamaki; grandchildren: Logan and Carissa Dresen; and by her brother-in-law, Kirk (Sheila) Wahamaki; as well as by her nieces, nephews, and their families. She will be fondly remembered by her special group of friends that she often referred to as her “sisters,” with whom she often planned special trips, lunches, supper club dinners and Friday night fish fry meetups.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren in 2002; her partner later in life, Roger Raymond in 2016; and by her sister, Jeanne Hibbard.

There were many thoughtful caregivers at Peabody Manor, ThedaCare and Ascension that aided Sandy in her medical journey. The family sends a heartfelt thank you to all those who touched her life.

A Celebration of Sandy's life will be held at a later date. Please check this site for updated information.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to Vietnam Veterans of America, Gloria Dei Lutheran Church - Neenah, ThedaCare Hospice Services or other of your choice.
