CARL STEFFIN

Carl Alfred Steffin, age 96, of Appleton, passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2014. He was born on August 6, 1918, in Shawano, WI, son of the late John and Anna (Reichert) Steffin. On October 25, 1941, he was married to Amanda Massey in Hernando, MS. They were married for 72 years and were blessed with two sons and two daughters. Carl was a gifted athlete and played multiple sports in high school and college. He was a veteran of WWII. Carl was a teacher and coached football and baseball at Menasha High School until 1960. He then worked at American Can Company in Human Resources until he retired in 1982. Carl loved to hunt and fish and enjoyed golfing well into his 90's. He and Amanda also loved to travel and spent 24 winters at Golden Village RV resort in Hemet, CA which, according to them, were the best years of their lives. While at Hemet, Carl was competitive at shuffleboard, horseshoes and volleyball. He also liked to win at the card game 99 and dominos. Carl will be sadly missed by his sons: William (Ellen Adams) Steffin, Los Angeles, CA; Donald (Carol) Steffin, Appleton, WI; daughters: Barbara (Nathan) Page, Middleton, WI; Dixie (Mike) Quinn, Eden Prairie, MN; 10 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife on February 24,2014; and his 5 sisters. A Memorial Service for Carl will be held on Thursday, September 4, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Timothy Lutheran Church (473 Seventh St., Menasha) with The Rev. David Skarsten officiating. A luncheon will follow the service. Friends will be received directly at the church on Thursday from 10:30 -11:30. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation can be made to a charity of your choice. The family would like to thank Prairie Home Assisted Living for their compassionate care over the last three months.
