VERNON GANZER

Vernon A. Ganzer, age 87, passed away Wednesday, September 10, 2014. He was born on September 9, 1927 in Wausau; son of the late, Reinhold and Hylis Ganzer. Vern honorably served his country with the U.S. Navy during WWII and was involved with the occupation of Japan. He was united in marriage to Mavis Mathison on October 24, 1953. Vern was a long time member of Odd Fellows and the Retired Men's Club in Neenah. He retired from American Can in 1987. He loved to sing and was a member of the church choir at First United Methodist Church in Neenah. Most recent, he was a member of the St. James United Methodist Church in Appleton. Vern was a patient, thoughtful, kindhearted Christian. He was fun loving, gentle and generous with his time and talents. He loved being around family and friends but cherished his time with his wife, Mavis. Vern and Mavis were "Adopted Grand Parents" to many. Vern is survived by his wife, Mavis Ganzer; son, Ed (Debbi) Donnenwerth; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bud (Shirley) Schuelke; brother-in-law, Doug Mathison and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard (Lola) Ganzer; sisters, Leone and Margaret Ann; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Everett and Myrtle Mathison and sister-in-law, Barb Mathison. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. at St. James United Methodist Church, 100 W. Capitol Dr., Appleton. The Rev. Mark Klaisner will officiate. Family and friends may visit at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery, Neenah. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the American Heart Association in his memory would be appreciated. We know he is in a better place, probably playing Sheepshead with friends, but he will be missed dearly. We love you, Vern!!
