HERBERT RASMUSSEN

Herbert Rasmussen, age 93, of Neenah passed away September 11, 2014 at his beloved farm. He was born and raised on his family dairy farm in Neenah, WI. The defining event of his life was his military service during WW II. He was proud of his veteran status and his service to his country, and displayed it proudly. He was a member of the local American Legion and VFW. Herb served in the 8th Army Air Corps as a radio technician Fifth Grade and navigator on B-17's participating in two missions to Germany from England. He saw action in France and Germany. His rendering of the Morse code was flawless. After his discharge, he worked in the graphic arts department of Marathon Corporation, which eventually became part of American Can Company, until his retirement. During that same time, he was working his farm raising a family along with oats, hay, and cattle. He was a workaholic, but also knew how to have a good time with his beer buddies. Survivors include his son, Carl (Ardythe) Rasmussen and daughter Dawn (Randy) Bella. Grandchildren, Lindsey Rasmussen, Jae Rasmussen, Michelle Rasmussen, Max Rasmussen and Austyn Bella. Sisters Ina, Hilda, Lucille, Leona, and Rose. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nels and Martha, wife Josephine, son Gary Rasmussen, brothers Elmer, Earl, Francis, and sister Evelyn. Friends may call at Menasha's Westgor Funeral Home on Monday, September 15, 2014 from 12 NOON until 2:00 P.M., at which point, Military Honors will be performed by the members of the Neenah-Menasha Veterans Honor Guard and the Army. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made under Herb's name to the American Legion of Neenah, 451 S. Green Bay Rd.
