Obituary
Charles H. ("Chuck") Schueler, age 80, took flight with his beloved birds on Friday, January 8, surrounded by family in his home. Charles was born on June 13, 1940 in Appleton, Wi. to Erwin & Verona (nee Wettstein) Schueler. In 1941, the family moved to the Town of Winchester where his father owned and operated The Peerless Cheese Factory.
Charles attended school in Winneconne, graduating from high school in 1958. After graduation, he joined the Army National Guard and received infantry training at Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo, and advanced training at Ft. Ord, CA. He was recalled to active duty during the Berlin crisis and served with the 32nd Division at Ft. Lewis, WA.
Charles spent 22 years with Wisconsin Wire Works/Asten Johnson where he was a weaver, and retired from there as Weaving Supervisor in 1999. He also spent 12 years with Ray-O-Vac Corp. in Appleton, as an operator and Production Supervisor.
He met and married Edwina (Helms) Melchion in 1973 and found a special and amazing partner whom he loved his entire life. They enjoyed camping and road trips traveling to Yellowstone and Acadia National Parks. They also traveled throughout the midwest attending model railroad shows and antique shops, which they enjoyed as hobbies. He especially enjoyed sharing his model railroad with their grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Edwina and their son Jonathan (Paula) Schueler, Green Bay; his children by a previous marriage: Julia (Lynn) Schueler, Menasha; Kelly (James) Brodhagen, Fox Crossing; Pauline Moran, Neenah; and William (Debby) Schueler, Neenah; his stepchildren: Kristin (Gerald) Kochman, Kenosha; Christine (Alex Phillips) Perkins, Menasha; and Frank Melchion, Woodbury, MN.
He was Grandpa Chuck to their 20 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Amanda (Thomas) McNamara and sons Thomas and Benjamin; James, Anthony and Samuel Brodhagen; Erica (Steven) Norman and daughters Emily and Margot; Laura (Danny) Bero; Nicole (Shaun Ezro) Schueler and her son Gabriel; Lucas and Joshua Schueler; Edwin and Henry Schueler; Robin (Alyssa) Wabalickis and children Gracie, Lily, Mary, and Rollie; Holly Wabalickis; Thomas Kochman; Bryan (Angie Larson) and children Hannah, Olivia, Ariana, and Landen; Alyssa, Alex,and Daniel Perkins; and Madison Melchion.
He is further survived by his brothers Jerome, Oshkosh; and Ronald (Skip) (Mary Alice) Schueler, Campbellsport.
Also surviving are sisters-in-law: Marilyn Kern, Kate Helms, Shirley Richardson, Leone (Jack) Hahnemann, Crystal Helms (Allan Beattie), Maggie (Donald) Warner; Ruth Ann (Ellis) Langjahr, and Irene Helms; brother-in-law Donald Van Elzen; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother Robert Schueler; brothers-in-law: Ralph Gunther, William Rankin, Paul Stiemke, Nick Kern, and Ron Helms; sisters-in-law: Rita Schueler, Viola Schueler, Jean Schueler, and Rita Van Elzen; a grandson Scott Schueler and great grandchild Jayce Konetzke.
A private funeral for immediate family is being planned at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Appleton, with inurnment to take place at St. Mary's Cemetery, Appleton. A celebration of Charles' life will take place at a later time.
