FLOYD MATTEK

Pastor Floyd William Mattek Joe , 94, of Neenah went to heaven to spend eternity with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, September 21, 2013. Floyd was born at home in Two Creeks, WI on December 25, 1918 to John and Celia Mattek, the second of three sons. Floyd was raised on the family farm in Two Creeks, received his high school education at Concordia in Milwaukee and Northwestern Prep School in Watertown, WI. On June 13, 1941 Floyd graduated from Dr. Martin Luther College in New Ulm, MN. Floyd spent the next 21 years in the teaching ministry of the Wisconsin Ev. Lutheran Synod, teaching elementary education, serving Lutheran schools in Kewaunee, Newburg, Montello, and Menasha, WI. On April 23, 1962 Floyd entered the pastoral ministry of the WELS through a colloquy and received a call to minister at Emanuel of Forestville, WI. Pastor Mattek also served as pastor at St. John in Riga, MI, St. John in Ann Arbor, MI, and Shepherd of the Hills in Fredericksburg, TX. Pastor Mattek retired from the active ministry in 1993, returning to live in Riga, MI and later in Neenah, WI. On August 20, 1041 Floyd married Marcella Ehlert in Eitzen, MN. On August 20 of this year Floyd and Marcella celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary. Their good and gracious Lord blessed their marriage with ten children, nine of whom survive their father. They are: Gene Mattek (and friend Linda), Neenah, WI; Sandra Hansel (George), Menasha, WI; Gary (DeDe) Mattek, Hortonville, WI; Gayle (Rev. Douglas) Engelbrecht, Neenah, WI; Paul (Barbara) Mattek, Austin, TX; Ruth Schmelzer, Sturgeon Bay, WI; Grace Mattek, Westland, MI; Mark (Jamie) Mattek, Riga, MI; and Jonathan (Leann) Mattek, Riga, MI. Floyd is also survived by 22 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Elsie Mattek, Appleton, WI, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Judith Mattek-Smith, a son-in-law Anthony Butch Schmelzer, a daughter-in-law Donna Mattek, brother Earl and sister-in-law Mayme Mattek and younger brother Pastor John Mattek. Funeral services for Pastor Mattek will be held on Thursday, September 26, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 407 Oak Street, Neenah, WI with Rev. James Mattek and Rev. Tony McKenzie officiating. There will be a visitation at the church on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will take place in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Mishicot, WI. A memorial has been established for the Opening Doors building fund for Trinity Lutheran School. Be faithful unto death and I will give you a crown of life. Rev. 21:10 God Be Praised!
