BURTON WESTOVER

On October 12, 2014, Burton "Burt" Charles Westover of Neenah, WI, after a wonderful life, was called home by the Lord. He had fought three tough battles with cancer beginning in 1981 with faith, a positive attitude and acceptance of "it is what it is," until losing the final three-year battle. Burt was born on July 24, 1931 in Berlin, WI, the son of Charles and Arline Westover. On December 18, 1954 he married the love of his life, Virginia "Ginnie" Davies and had been looking forward to celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary. Together they had five wonderful children, who made him a very proud Dad. He is survived by his wife, Ginnie and their children Kathy, Appleton, WI, Terri (Dave) Golner, Edmonds, WA, Jeff (Julie), Sydney, Australia, Linda (Gary) Hoehne, Neenah, WI and Mark, (Kristi), Waunakee, WI. He is further survived by his grandchildren, Daniel, Jenna, Brandon, Connor, Courtney and Tyler Westover. Additional survivors include a step grandchild, Emily, his brother Donald (Elizabeth), Lincoln, NE and their cousins. Following graduation from Berlin High School in 1949, Burt pursued a career with the Milwaukee Sentinel and shortly thereafter became a District Manager. Burt was a natural born salesman, opening every conversation with a joke, and in 1959 began a successful sales career that touched five decades with the LM Berry Company. He retired in 1993 as National Accounts Manager. During his career he made numerous friendships that continued to the time of his passing. When not working, Burt enjoyed the outdoors, especially when hunting and fishing with his Dad. Every summer, Burt and his family enjoyed being at the cottages on the Waupaca Chain O' Lakes and later at his cottage on the Cloverleaf Lakes near Clintonville. In addition to loving the outdoors, he enjoyed family time, cars, crossword puzzles and never giving up on the Chicago Cubs. He also loved boating, and his kids would tell you no one could back up a boat trailer like their Dad. Burt was a charitable person, always happy to donate his time for a good cause. He always looked forward to the Christmas season so he could ring the "Red Kettle" bells for donations. This lead Burt to his new calling; volunteering. He served on various panels and boards which included: Boys' and Girls' Brigade, United Way, Red Cross, The Salvation Army, Bletzinger House and many other organizations. His proudest achievement was 18 years of installing and servicing "Lifeline" Emergency Systems. In 2011, The Neenah Rotary Club presented Burt with the "Service Above Self Award". He was also a 50+ year member of the First Presbyterian Church of Neenah. His family wishes to thank the Theda Care Staff for their wonderful care, also Dr. Yao and the staff at Fox Valley Hematology and Oncology who provided wonderful service and support. We can't forget the caring staff at the Martha Seickman Cancer Center who helped us in every way possible. Finally, we would like to thank the compassionate staff of Cherry Meadows Hospice for helping Burt leave this world with dignity and peace. Services to celebrate Burt's life will be on Friday, October 17, 2014 at First Presbyterian Church, 200 Church Street, Neenah, WI. Visitation will be held from 9:00 am to the start of the 11:00 am memorial service with a luncheon to follow. Donations in Burt's honor will be given to Mayo Clinic for cancer research.
