EDITH KUEHN
March 05, 1926 - October 20, 2014
Obituary
Edith W. Kuehn, age 88, was called into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, October 20, 2014. She was born on March 5, 1926, the daughter of Gustav and Pauline Kelbert in Neuhof, Germany. Edith immigrated to the United States in 1951 and settled in Neenah, WI. On March 26, 1955 she married the love of her life, Werner K. Kuehn. The two of them had grown up in the same village in Germany, and have many stories to tell of life in Germany during and after the war. The war separated them for a time, but they were reunited once they came to the United States. She was a loving mother to her two sons, a wonderful homemaker, and a great cook. Edith had a love and talent for gardening; her plants both inside and outside of her house thrived under her attentive care. She also enjoyed crocheting, knitting and needlework. When they had opportunity, she and Werner loved dancing together. It was wonderful to see how gracefully they moved together, and reminded all of us of how their lives always moved together as one. They were members of the Deutsch Amerikanischer National Kongress, a social organization which often held dances and occasions to celebrate their German heritage. Travelling was also one of their passions; Edith and Werner travelled to Europe many times, and to various places within the United States. Of utmost importance to Edith was her relationship with her Savior. She loved reading her Bible and sharing her faith with family and friends. As a member of Grace Lutheran Church, she enjoyed the Christian fellowship she shared with the other members. She loved playing Bible Jeopardy and often came out the victor. In later years, Edith was known as "Oma" (or "Emma" to some). She was dearly loved by her grandchildren and was an important part of their lives. She loved playing cards and games with them. She also loved attending their many activities, especially concerts and theater performances. She and Werner were known as Oma and Opa not only to their grandchildren but to the many friends of their grandchildren as well. They will well remember her generous hospitality and care - you would never leave her house hungry or thirsty. Until we are reunited in heaven, Edith will be greatly missed by her beloved husband, Werner and her two sons; Harry (Lori), Fremont and Gary (Cheryl), Neenah. She was blessed with 3 grandchildren, Paul (Danielle) Kuehn, Shawano; Alyssa (Jon) Spreeman, Neenah; and Jared (Stephanie) Kuehn, Waukesha. She had 4 great grandchildren: Katarina, Max, Carlyle, and Avalyn. Edith is also survived by her brother Horst (Barbara) Kelbert, Ocala, FL; by her brother-in-law Hasso (Alide) Kuehn, Neenah; and by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, by brothers Wilhelm, Arnold, Reinhard, and Erwin; and by sisters Marie, Elly, and Gertrude. The funeral service for Edith will be held on Friday, October 24, 2014 at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1390 Breezewood Lane, Neenah, WI, where they were long time members and loved being a part of that Christian family. The time of service will be 11:00 AM, with the Rev. Richard Frost officiating. Friends and family may visit at the church, from 9:00 AM until the time of service. Burial will be at Oakhill Cemetery in Neenah with a committal service at 2:00 PM. The family would like to thank Dr. Curtis Baltz and his staff; Dr. Simon Roselar and his staff; and the staff of ThedaCare Hospice, especially Laura, for their loving care of Edith. Their kindness will never be forgotten by her family.
