ERVIN VOLKMAN

Ervin G. Volkman, of Appleton, age 87, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 30, 2011 at St. Elizabeth Hospital following a brief illness. He was born December 4, 1923 in Neenah, son of the late Ervin W. and Margaret (Stelow) Volkman. Ervin attended Carroll College in Waukesha and Lawrence University in Appleton. He married Helen Elsner on December 13, 1947 in Green Bay. She preceded him in death on March 7, 1998. Ervin served in the US Navy during WWII. He was employed in Sales and Marketing during his professional career until his retirement. Ervin enjoyed hunting, fishing, painting and poetry, as well as spending time with family, He was active in the Boys and Girls Brigade and sang with the Y Nots. Ervin was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Neenah and a member of the American Legion. Survivors include three children: Susan (Eric) Cardwell, Scottsdale, AZ; Arthur (Rebecca) Volkman, Redgranite, WI; James (Sue Ellen) Volkman, Oconomowoc, WI. Two grandchildren: Nicki (Peter) Doggart and Aaron Volkman; a brother-in-law, Ronald Farrell, Winneconne, WI; and several nieces, nephews and many cousins. He was preceded in death by a sister, Joan Farrell. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 4, 2011 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, 809 S. Commercial St., Neenah, with the Rev. Catherine A.K. Mode officiating. The visitation will be held at the church on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of service. In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established for the church. The family would like to thank the people of Touchmark where he had been residing the last several years.
