Obituary
Duane C. Langdon, age 91, passed away peacefully at Cherry Meadows Hospice surrounded by his family on Tuesday, August 2, 2011. He was born May 23, 1920 in Mobridge, SD, son of the late Fred and Betsy (Mortenson) Langdon. Duane served during WWII in the US Navy for 10 years, stationed in the Pacific. Then he enlisted in the US Army and served another 12 years, being stationed in the US and for a time in Japan. He married Irma Soderstrom on August 8, 1944. She preceded him in death in 1988. Following the military Duane was employed with the City of Appleton street department for 20 years until his retirement. He enjoyed traveling and camping with his dogs. Duane was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Appleton until it closed. He then joined Whiting Community Baptist Church in Neenah. Survivors include three children: Roy (Mary) Langdon, Betsy (Stan) Steffes, RoseMary Buelow; two grandchildren: Gina (Todd) Johnson, Lee (Vicki) Buelow; two great-grandchildren: Jake and Rachel; a brother, Gene Langdon; a sister-in-law, Josephine Langdon; and three nephews: Mark (Teresa) Langdon, Rick (Karen) Langdon, John (Phyllis) Benske. He was preceded in death by a sister, Myrtis and brother-in-law Jack Benske; two brothers: Claire Langdon and Nathan Langdon; a grandson, Mathew Langdon; and a niece, Betsy Jo Langdon Bauer. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 14, 2011, at 4:00 p.m. at the Whiting Community Baptist Church, 1020 Tullar Rd., Neenah, with the Rev. James Schmitz officiating. Full military rites will follow the service. The visitation will be held at the church from 2:00 p.m. until the hour of service. In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established for the church in Duanes name. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Cherry Meadows, especially Melissa, Karla and Acacia. Also, thank you to Dr. Gene Rigstad.
