DOROTHY KETTENHOFEN

Dorothy P. Kettenhofen, Neenah, age 87, passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2009. She was born November 12, 1921 in Daggett, MI; daughter of the late Harold and Margaret (Scheffler) Nellis. Dorothy moved to Menasha when she was young where she attended St. John's Grade School and then St. Mary's High School, graduating in 1940. Dorothy played clarinet in band and was the Band librarian and secretary for 4 years. She continued this service for the CYO band after her graduation. Dorothy married Adrian "Jim" Kettenhofen on August 12, 1942. The couple moved to Baltimore during the war and then returned to the Neenah-Menasha area in 1944. She was employed as a dental assistant and receptionist for the late Dr. Costello and then worked for the Chemical Supply Co. Dorothy became the leader of St. Patrick's first Girl Scout Troop and besides the usual scout program took them camping and white-water canoeing on the Flambeau River in northern Wisconsin. Along with her family, Dorothy loved all animals, flowers and nature. She was an avid reader with a wide range of interests from political news to medical information and books of all varieties. A loving wife and mother, she is survived by her husband of 67 years, Jim Kettenhofen; four children: Adrian Kettenhofen Jr., Oshkosh, Susan (Noel) Fallwell, Cary, NC, Michael (Judi) Kettenhofen, Fox Point, WI, John (Joyce) Kettenhofen, Hartford, WI, and seven grandchildren. The Mass of Resurrection will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Menasha, with Fr. Larry Canavera officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of service. In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established in her name.
