Obituary
Elizabeth J. Schommer, Menasha, age 80, passed away after a brief battle with cancer on Thursday, April 16, 2009 at Cherry Meadows Hospice. She was born March 22, 1929 in Menasha, daughter of the late Andrew and Rose (Verkuilen) Schreiber. Elizabeth married Alfred Voelker in January of 1948; he preceded her in death in 1985. She then married Roger Schommer in October of 1992; he preceded her in death in 2001. Elizabeth was a lifelong member of St. Marys Catholic Church in Menasha. A loving wife, mother and caregiver, she will be missed by all who knew her. Survivors include three children: Nancy Barney, Appleton, Debbie (Stephen) Olsen, Elkins, WV, John (Becky) Voelker, McFarland, WI; six grandchildren: Dia Barney, Kristin (Justin) Bahnsen, Matthew Olsen, Cassie (Richard) Largilliere, Ross and Jay Voelker; three step-children: Joe (Lee) Schommer, Colorado Springs, Anne (Tom) Zollinger, Wright, WY, Mike (Monica) Schommer, Douglas, WY; eight step grandchildren, Steve and John Schommer, Allison and Katie Green, Jimmy Zollinger, Brittany, Ethan and Wyatt Schommer; two step-great grandchildren, Karissa and Kadance Miller; two sisters, Florence Petersen, Menasha, Ruth (John) Maciejewski, Menasha. She was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille Reimer; and a brother, Kenneth Schreiber. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, April 20, 2009, at St. Marys Catholic Church, Menasha, with Fr. Larry Canavera officiating. Visitation will be held at the church Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service. In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established for Cherry Meadows-Community Foundation Funds Hospice. The family would like to thank the staff of Cherry Meadows Hospice for all their wonderful care of our mother.

Nancy and family, Joan called me about your mother's passing. I am so sorry. Your Mother was a mother to me and I know others felt the same way. We loved to visit and spend time with you Nanc but I always wanted to talk to your Mom. She listened attentively to my foolish problems of youth but never made me feel foolish only accepted and cared about. She was a very unique and special lady.
