Obituary
Ronald Philip Smead, "Surfer Boy",of Holly Springs, NC, age 40, passed away Monday, April 20, 2009 at his home. He was born April 2, 1969 in Michigan, son of Maynard and JoAnn (Ricketts) Smead. He married Vickie Landsverk on August 17, 1991 in Neenah. Ronald graduated from Neenah High School in 1987, and UW Oshkosh in 1991. He was a former employee of JJ Keller & Associates. He was presently employed by John Deere Corporation in Cary, NC. Ronald enjoyed soccer, golf, and running marathons. Every night he played golf and tennis with his daughter. He is survived by his wife, Vickie and daughter Brooke, of Holly Springs; his parents, Maynard and JoAnn, Pickerel, WI, a brother, Robert (Yuliya) Smead, Larsen, WI, niece and nephew, Katrina and Nathan, two brothers-in-law: Gregory (Jennifer) Landsverk, Seymour, niece and nephew, Drew and Annie, Gerry (Dawn) Landsverk, New London, niece and nephew, Josie and Wesley; and mother and father-in-law, Jerry and Sandy Landsverk, Neenah. He was preceded in death by two brothers: James and Thomas Smead; paternal grandparents, Maynard and Florence Smead, maternal grandparents, Alice and Jack Ricketts, and an uncle, Phil Smead. A funeral service for Ronald will be held Saturday, April 25, 2009 at 3:00 pm, at Neenah's Westgor Funeral Home with the Rev. Mary Council-Austin officiating. Visitation will be on Saturday at the funeral home from 1:00 pm until the time of service. Interment will be in Bethesda Cemetery in Navarino. A memorial has been established in Ronald's name. In honor of Surfer Boy, please dress accordingly.

My deepest sympathies to the family. I did not know Ronny personally but did hear wonderful things about him from brother, Bob. Hold tight to each other.

Our deepest sympathy in the lost of such a wonderful person. Ron was our Post Crescent paper boy for many years during our 31 years living in Neenah. He was also a class member of our daughter, Jennifer. Our son, Jay was an avid soccer player so knew Ron well also. He was always a joy to talk with and even made us a gift for our 16th wedding anniversary. We have fond memories of him and are so sorry to see his life end much too soon.

I worked with Ron at John Deere via emails and some phone conversations...so needless to say I didn't know him very well personally. I did know that he was an important part of the C&CE division at Deere, and that he was liked and respected. Being very close to Ron in age, it was extremely sad to hear of his passing. It makes a person realize how precious life is, and the time with loved ones. My sincerest sympathies go out to Ron's family.
