Zernicke family, I am saddened to hear of your loss. I did not know Calvin personally, but I knew of him as a result of attending high school with Paul. I fondly remember all senior portraits with the Zernicke name inscribe with gold on the portrait. Mr. Zernicke had a great reputation for being classy as a businessman and member of our community. Cal and I were classmates .. the Class of '43. I loved him dearly; he was a wonderful friend. It is so difficult to be unable to attend the services for those who are very close to us, but I will be there in spirit. My condolences to the entire family. I will miss Cal and his wonderful sense of humor. I'm so sorry.

I remember Mr. Zernicke as a friend of my Father's & as the photographer that took ALL the senior photos for us Neenah High School graduates. The Zernicke Studio was a landmark in town as I was growing up. The community will surely miss him.

This is a beautiful tribute to Cal and I learned several things I did not know about the man. He was first and foremost a great father and then a great member of the Fox Valley community. He was like a second father to some of us. And he was a wonderful photographer, well ahead of time and much more artistically inclined than many who worked in the field in his heyday. To those of us who as kids knew Cal we thank him for his tolerance, good cheer and ability to turn a blind eye to the theft of bakery goods and other food items from his kitchen. He would wink at you, an indication he knew who was the culprit. When I remember Cal, I remember two things -- a mischevious smile and a genuine happiness with the world. Thiw world will miss him while another world now will be embracing him.
