ROSE ELMER

Rose V. Elmer, of Neenah, age 93, passed away peacefully following a brief illness with her daughter by her side on Monday, February 21, 2011. She was born July 12, 1917 in Menasha, daughter of the late Frederick and Lydia (Makus) Mielke. Roses parents immigrated to the US from Germany. They arrived at Ellis Island and eventually settled in Neenah. She married Albert Elmer in 1936. He preceded her in death in 1984. Rose was a 3-time cancer survivor, never complaining and just looking forward to getting home to sit on her back porch and tending to her flowers around her house. She was very proud of being a bookkeeper for Alferis Spices in Neenah until her retirement. Rose was an avid reader and enjoyed keeping up on all the current events. She loved music, especially Polka, which she instilled in her sons who then played in Polka bands for many years. Rose was a former member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Survivors include three children: Don Elmer, Omro, Floyd Elmer, Neenah, Linda (Bill) Greetan, Neenah; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Marion Elmer; a son-in-law, Leo OConnor; grandson, Kevin; infant granddaughter, Valerie Lyn; 5 sisters: Martha, Marie, Magdalina, Theresa, Gloria; an infant brother, Henry. The funeral service will be held at Neenahs Westgor Funeral Home on Thursday, February 24, 2011, at 6:00 p.m. with the Rev. Paul L. Holte officiating. The visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until the hour of service. In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established. The family would like to thank the staff of Alten Haus and Prairie Homes for all their loving care. Mother, How does a Daughter say Good-Bye " to the one who was always beside her. I held you in my arms with tears flowing in my eyes for the last time. You are now with the Lord in those beautiful clouds in Heaven with the angels around you. Your work is done.
