Obituary
Clayton Ernest Hughes, age 92 of Menasha, passed away Monday, February 21, 2011. He was born August 30, 1918 in Florence, WI to the late Claude and Mary (Hendrickson) Hughes. On June 12, 1943 he married Marian Sternhagen. Clayton was a graduate of Florence High School and joined the military in 1940. He was a member of the Calvary and also a Tank Commander during WWII. He retired from American Can in 1981 and was an avid Packer fan. Clayton is survived by his son, Dennis (Sandee) Hughes; grandchildren: Jill (Mike) Hebert; and Jason Hughes; great-grandchildren: Marissa, Katherine, and Joshua Hebert. He is further survived by his sisters-in-law: Mary Hughes; Winnie Mindel; Nita (Louis)Derocher; Joyce (Wally) Wilhelmi; brothers-in-law: Llyod (Arlene) Sternhagen; and Niel Bailey; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marian; his sister, Louvernne Hendrickson; brothers, Paul Hughes and Roy Hughes; brother-in-law Dowain Mindel; and sister-in-law Audrey Bailey. The funeral service for Clayton will be held Saturday, February 26, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at Bethel Lutheran Church, Menasha. Visitation will be from 9:30 A.M. until the hour of service. Inurnment will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Gardens of Peace. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethel Lutheran Church, Menasha, or the American Heart Assoc. The family would like to extend a warm thank you to Oakridge Gardens for their compassionate care.
