EVERETT NIELSEN

Nielsen, Everett A. Tea Cup Neenah Everett A. Nielsen, age 89, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at Theda Clark Medical Center. He was born on September 15, 1922 in Waupaca, son of the late Severt and Nellie (Sherman) Nielsen. Everett was a 1942 graduate of Waupaca High School, and excelled as a goaltender on their hockey team. After high school, Everett proudly served his country as a Merchant Marine during WWII. On October 23, 2010 he embarked on a journey to Our Nations capitol to visit the WWII Memorial with the Old Glory Honor Flight. After his service he went on to play semi-pro hockey for the Green Bay Bobcats, and later played for fun for the Menasha Redwings. After returning from service he was employed by Kimberly Clark Lakeview Mill for 40 years and retired in 1984. On September 25, 1949 he married his lovely bride, Germaine Rohde in Manawa, and the union was blessed with 62 wonderful years, a daughter, two sons, and four grandchildren. He was a member of Martin Luther Church in Neenah; American Legion in Neenah; as well as the VFW in Waupaca. He volunteered many hours at his church, and to the Boys Brigade. He loved bowling, playing dartball in the Four Seasons League through Kimberly Clark, hunting, fishing, woodworking, and was a member of the Twin City Rod and Gun Club, and worked the trout ponds. Everett was an avid fan of the Packers, Badgers, and Brewers. He will be sadly missed by his beloved wife, Germaine; his daughter, Susan (Charles) Strauss, Menasha; sons: Steven (Jean), Appleton, Scott, Neenah; grandchildren: Jonathon (Madison Blodgett) Nielsen, Houston, TX; Allison (Fiance Matthew Blair) Nielsen, Conway, AR; Angela (Fiance Evan Trolson) Strauss, Appleton; Charlie Strauss, Menasha; brothers: Tom (Pauline), Andover, MN, Eugene (Mary Pat), Downers Grove, IL; sisters: Cora Santos, Petersburg, IL, Wanda (Russell) May, Pulaski, Patricia (Steven) Luft, Sun City, AZ; brother-in-law: Kenneth Rohde; sisters-in-law: Ruby Nielsen, Gracie Nielsen, Evelyn Nielsen; as well as several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers: James, Fred, La Verne, Richard, Kenneth; sisters: Nora Bucks, Lucille Plunkett; brothers-in-law: Frank Bucks, James Plunkett, Richard Santos; sisters-in-law: Eunice Rohde, Nelda Rohde. The Christian Funeral for Everett will be held on Saturday, February 18, at 1:30 p.m. at Martin Luther Church (436 S. Lake Street, Neenah) with Rev. Richard I. Krahn II officiating. Friends will be received at the church from 10:30 a.m. until the hour of service. Interment with full military honors will take place in Lakeside Cemetery in Waupaca. In lieu of flowers, donations in Everetts name are appreciated to Martin Luther Church and to the Old Glory Honor Flight Program.
