DAVID SCHOENING

David G. Schoening, age 79, died unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, February 18th. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Dave was born in Tigerton, WI on July 29, 1932, son of the late Louis and Gertrude (Roeske) Schoening, and grew up in New London, WI. After graduating from New London High School in 1950, Dave attended UW Whitewater and UW Oshkosh. He then served his country in the US Army. Upon completion of his service he was employed by American Can/James River for 30 years. During his retirement years, Dave pursued his hobby of woodworking and made many beautiful gifts for his children and grandchildren. He and his wife also spent many fulfilling hours being with family, traveling, and attending live theatre productions. Dave will be remembered by his family and friends for his humorous stories and for his love of playing cards. He loved music and they will miss hearing his voice singing a song as he sat at his computer or rode in the car. Dave was very generous and loved giving to others. He shared his time and talents by volunteering as a small group leader for Boys and Girls Brigade, as a hunter safety instructor for the Twin City Rod and Gun Club , and most recently as a tutor in his daughters 2nd grade classroom at Coolidge Elementary School in Neenah. Survivors include his wife, Carolynn Brown-Schoening; his ten children: Dori (Tom) Hoffmann, Debbie (Terry) Krejcarek, Darel (Ranay) Schoening, Darci (Jim) Strobel, Diane (John) Weyenberg, Sean Brown (Denise Konen), Dave (Shiho) Schoening, Kevin (Anne) Skwira-Brown, Darin (Jennifer) Schoening, Damon (Jennifer) Schoening; Dave was Papa to his 22 grandchildren; Nisi Duvall, Aaron (Emily) Hoffmann, Nicky Krejcarek, Jesse Krejcarek, Angie (Scott) Farrell, Abby Strobel, Ben Strobel, Conor Bell, Elinor Bell, David Schoening, Hallie Weyenberg, Lydia Weyenberg, Will Weyenberg, Ryan Golden, Evan Golden, Kaitlin Konen, Derrick Schoening, Zachary Schoening, Katherine Skwira-Brown, Rachel Skwira-Brown, Jasmine Schoening, Darin Schoening; Four great-grandchildren: Adeline Duvall, Joey Duvall, Henry Farrell and Ellen Farrell; Dave is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and caring friends. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ellen Freiburger Schoening, and his 4 brothers, Duane, Dalton, Dennis, and Damon Schoening. The Mass of Resurrection will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 23, 2012, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 404 W. Lawrence St., Appleton, with Fr. David J. Funk, OFM Cap., officiating. The visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until a time of sharing at 7:00 p.m. at Menashas Westgor Funeral Home, and again at the church on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until the hour of service. A memorial fund has been established for Daves special charity, St. Joseph Indian School in Chamberlain, South Dakota. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the Grand Chute police and fire departments, the Gold Cross first responders and to Chaplain KC Schuler and the emergency room staff at Appleton Medical Center for their compassionate care.
