JAMES HOHENWALTER

James F. Hohenwalter, of Neenah, age 72, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, August 13, 2011. He was born August 20, 1938 in Oshkosh, in the oldest house in Winnebago County, son of the late George and Mary (Schuster) Hohenwalter. Jim attended Sacred Heart grade school and graduated from Oshkosh High School. He then attended Marquette University before joining the US Army. Jim was stationed at Fort Belvoir in Virginia and accompanied President Kennedy on his European tour as a security guard for his helicopter. He married Rita Nagler on August 6, 1966. Jim was employed with Oshkosh Truck and then retired from Goodwill Industries. He loved the outdoors including hunting, fishing, and gardening. Jim also loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Neenah, the American Legion Hawley-Dieckhoff Post #33 of Neenah, and the Oshkosh Eagles Club. Survivors include his wife, Rita; three children: Mark (Carolyn) Hohenwalter, Brookfield, WI, Lisa (Doug) Marek, Harris, MN, Eric (Jennifer) Hohenwalter, Pewaukee, WI; six grandchildren, Mike, Katie, Matt, Audrey, Elise, George; two brothers: George (Ellen) Hohenwalter, Richard (Jane) Hohenwalter, both of Oshkosh; three sisters: Carol Schmidt, Janet Zarter, both of Oshkosh, Jane (Alan) McCormick, Appleton; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Joe Marek; two brothers-in-law: Carleton Schmidt and Norman Zarter. The Mass of Resurrection will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 20, 2011 at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 900 Geiger St., Neenah, with Fr. Larry Seidl officiating. The visitation will be held at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service. Full military honors will follow the service at church.
