MYRTLE GILBERTSON

Myrtle M. Gilbertson, Town of Vinland, passed away at Theda Clark Medical Center following a brief illness on Wednesday, August 24, 2011. She was born July 26, 1924 in the Town of Oshkosh, daughter of the late Grover and Henrietta (Haueter) Cowling. Myrtle graduated from Neenah High School. She married Russell Gilbertson on February 6, 1942 in Oshkosh, WI. He preceded her in death on August 1, 2001. Myrtle loved living in the country where she enjoyed watching the wild life especially the white tail deer that came to her yard each evening. When the family moved to the country, horses became a large part of the family life with horse shows and 4-H projects. There were many years of snowmobiling in the winter months with her family and friends. Mom was a loving mother and homemaker first, always enjoying visits from her children and grandchildren. Grammy loved to listen to their stories and share a good laugh. Holidays at home with Mom were always special. Mom loved to sing with her grandchildren and friends at her yearly birthday parties. Her children have many memories of her singing her favorite songs around the house. In her later years she found a love for karaoke. Myrtle was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Neenah. Survivors include her seven children: Gary (Betty) Gilbertson, Georgia (Carl) Beringer, Gail (Bruce) Miller, Randall Gilbertson, Wayne (Donna) Gilbertson, Debbie (Douglas) Irvine, Bonnie (Len) Kostelny; 15 grandchildren: Paula Helbach, Brian (Lauren) Gilbertson, Jennifer Gilbertson, Stephen (Kelly) Beringer, Christine (David) Maulick, Ryan Beringer, Jason (Sarah) Miller, Travis Gilbertson, Jenai Gilbertson, Ashley (Chris) Schaefer, Andrea Irvine, Kelsey Irvine, Courtney Kostelny, Meghan Kostelny; 9 great-grandchildren. Conner & Hunter Beringer, Greyson, Riley & Madison Maulick, Liliana Kamps, Whitney Helbach; a sister, Jeannette Fitzgerald; and a brother, Grover (Nancy) Cowling II. She is further survived by many nieces and nephews and other family and friends. Myrtle was preceded in death by a daughter, Dawn Gilbertson; a brother, Duane Cowling and a sister, Virginia Bartlett. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 30, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, 809 S. Commercial St., Neenah, with the Rev. Catherine A.K. Mode officiating. The visitation will be held at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service. Interment will follow in Brooks Cemetery, Town of Vinland. Myrtle has left her family and friends with many wonderful memories of times shared together.
