OLIVER HANSTEDT

Oliver Al Elroy Hanstedt, age 91, of Menasha, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 27, 2013 at The Captain James Lovell Federal Health Care Center in North Chicago, Illinois. Al was born on June 16, 1922, son to the late Leonard and Orpha Hanstedt. He joined the Army in 1942 and served his country proudly in WWII. He fought on the beaches of Normandy, the Battle of the Bulge and liberated a concentration camp at the end of the war. In 1949, he married Beverly Riska and raised 4 wonderful children. Al worked construction for 50 years throughout the Midwest. Once he retired from construction, he worked until age 86 for his son-in-law at Chrysler World, as he loved being with people and felt it kept him young. Al is survived by his three children: Gary Hanstedt of California, Kathy [Stu] Winarski of Shawano, and Vicki [William] Hanstedt-Parker of Illinois. In addition to daughters-in-law, Denise Hanstedt of Neenah and Connie Hanstedt of California, he is further survived by his grandchildren: Ryan (Myranda) Hanstedt, Cara (Brian) Gordon, Andrea Hanstedt, Noah Hanstedt, Alyx (Nick) Simons, Kacy Winarski, Rylee Parker and Haylee Parker, and great grandchildren: Nolan, Aaron Oliver (namesake) and Bryce Hanstedt. Al will be missed by his brother, Len Hanstedt, and sister, Lois Bressers, in-laws Lyle Riska, Dorothy Riska, Nancy and Roger Williams, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly, son, Rob, son-in-law, Ben, sister-in-law, Joyce and brothers-in-law, Vince and Vaughn. The memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at Menashas Westgor Funeral Home followed by full military honors. A time of visitation will be held from 11:00 AM until the service. The Hanstedt family would like to thank the staff at the VA hospital for their excellent care and support.
