DOUGLAS SMITH

Douglas G. Smith, 67, passed away Monday, January 13, 2014 with his family and friends by his side. He was born on October 21, 1946 in Neenah; son of the late Norvald and Elsie (Hammel) Smith. Doug honorably served his country with the U.S. Army. He drove transport in the Army and that led to his career as a long haul truck driver and eventually to having his own company, Sierra Wisconsin Transport. He loved hunting, fishing and his amazing cooking and grilling will be deeply missed. Doug is survived by his loving wife, Lois Ann Sammy Smith; children, Stephanie (Craig) Gunkel and Heidi Smith; step children, Philip (Eileen) Spradlin, Dana (John) Mellberg and Lynda (Jeff Levandoski) Turner; 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Joan Gawlick and Connie (Jerry) Bayer. Doug will be greatly missed by his many nieces and nephews and a multitude of dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and Martin Todd Castle. A time of visitation will be held Thursday, January 16, 2014, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Neenahs Westgor Funeral Home. Burial and full military honors will take place in Central Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in King. Doug's family would like to say a special thanks to the nurses and staff at ThedaCare at Home Hospice, especially Noone and Jeannie for their compassionate care.
