LOUIS SCHOEPEL

Louis (Lou) W. Schoepel, age 83, of Appleton passed away on January 18, 2014 following a brief illness caused by pulmonary fibrosis. Louis was born to the late Wallace and Janet (Terrio) Schoepel on October 21, 1930. He graduated from Menasha High School in 1948 and was married to Joyce Nelson on October 5, 1957. Louis enjoyed a successful career with American Can before retiring after 42 years of employment. As a long standing member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Appleton, Louis was an active supporter of the churchs ministry and held several committee positions over the years. During retirement, he performed volunteer work at Theda Clark Medical Center. Louis was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers. Three of his favorite hobbies were constructing miniature doll houses, growing orchids, and assembling clocks. He also enjoyed travelling and, especially, family vacations. As a dedicated spouse and father, Louis enjoyed time with his family and is survived by his wife, Joyce, and five children: David, Karen, Michael, Steven, and Alexandra Schoepel. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Justin, Margaret, Abigail, John, and Dryden. Louis was preceded in death by a sister, Roberta Eckstein. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 AM on Thursday, January 23, 2014, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 209 S. Allen St., Appleton, with Rev. Brian Bankert officiating. The visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 AM until the hour of service. In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established in his name.
