Obituary

Sara Stringer Hildebrand of Neenah, WI, died peacefully on November 15, 2012, surrounded by her family. She was born on April 2, 1933 in Birmingham, Michigan, the daughter of the late Roy E. Stringer and Alice Tibbetts Stringer. Sara graduated from Smith College in 1955. She married Dr. Fredric L. Hildebrand on August 11, 1956. Sara is survived by her husband, Dr. Fredric L. Hildebrand Sr.; their three children, Dr. Fredric (Sarah) Hildebrand Jr. of Neenah and their children Henry and Charlie; Karl Hildebrand of Madison, WI; Katherine (David) Lippincott of Oak Park, IL and their son Stuart; grandchildren Ben and Caroline Hildebrand of Ridgefield, CT; nephews Daniel and Patrick Mitchell; and her cousin Sue Schulze. Sara was preceded in death by her sister Mary Stringer Mitchell, and her son William Hildebrand. Sara Hildebrand was a 19-year breast cancer survivor. As a team member of Expedition Inspiration in 1995, with other breast cancer survivors, Sara climbed Mount Aconcagua in Argentina. She became a tireless advocate and fundraiser for breast cancer awareness, speaking nationally and serving on numerous breast cancer research boards. Saras dedication to this cause contributed to the development of the University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center breast cancer research program in Madison, WI, and she became a founding member of the Womens Leadership Board, Kennedy School of Government of Harvard University. Sara was an inspiration to many women who have experienced breast cancer. Sara was devoted to her family and friends. Along with her husband Fritz, she followed her many passions, including world travel, current events and politics, opera, and Badger sports. The family wishes to thank the nursing staff of 5 Center at Theda Clark Medical Center, Amy Munn of Theda Care at Home Hospice, and Drs. Anthony Phillips, John Swanson, Robert Nonn, David Schultz, Haroon Yusaf, Satish Achanti, and David Nevin all for their expert and compassionate care. A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 200 Church Street, Neenah, on November 27 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Richard Moore officiating. A memorial fund has been established in her name at the First Presbyterian Church.
