GORDON JOHNSON

Gordon Shifty Johnson, 89, of Neenah, passed away peacefully November 22, 2012, at Prairie Homes, Menasha. Gordon was born November 29, 1922, in Oshkosh, the son of the late George and Eleanor (Edwards) Johnson. He grew up in Omro and attended Omro High School, where he excelled in football and basketball. Gordon served in the United States Marines during World War II. He was united in marriage to Mary Steele on April 23, 1944, in Waukau. She preceded him in death in 2000. For nearly 50 years, Shifty was employed with 4X Company (Courtney & Plummer, Twin City Concrete) prior to his retirement. The Johnsons were charter members of Peace Lutheran Church of Neenah. Shifty was quite a character! He was a frequent contributor to the Post-Crescents Its Your Call. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, trips to the casino, and the Packers. Survivors include his children: Mary Ann (James) Wruck, Kristine (James) Zeinert, and Gordon J. (Cindi) Johnson, all of Neenah; his grandchildren: Jennifer Wruck (Larry Gardner), Christopher (Dawn) Wruck, Jason (Karie) Zeinert, Benjamin (Katherine) Johnson, and Alex Johnson; his great-grandchildren: Sydnee Dunkel, Nicholas Dunkel, Gabrielle Gardner, Nathanael and Zachary Wruck, Ryan, Kevin, and Keri Vanden Heuvel, Lily, Maya, and Jack Zeinert, and Andrew Johnson. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two brothers: Milton (Elsie) and Howard (Jayne), two sisters: Kathryn (Milon) Gregory and Elizabeth (Edward) Drebus; and a great-grandson, Miles C. Wruck. The memorial service for Gordon will be Monday, December 3, 2012, at 6:00 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, with Rev. Ricky P. Schroeder officiating. Visitation will begin Monday at 4:00 p.m. at the church until the hour of the service. Urn burial will be in Lake View Memorial Park, Oshkosh. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Gordon's honor may be sent to Peace Lutheran Church.
