ALLAN MENTZ

Allan F. Mentz, of Appleton, age 66, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family following a 9 month battle with cancer on Saturday, November 24, 2012. He was born on January 13, 1946 in Laona, Wisconsin, son of the late Harry and Catherine (Tipton) Mentz. Allan graduated from Laona High School in 1964. He then joined the US Army for 2 years being stationed in Vietnam. Allan married Carol Landskron on June 21, 1969, at St. Johns Catholic Church in Menasha. In June of 1969 he started working for the Menasha Fire Department, retiring as a Captain in June of 2000. Allan was an avid sports fan, especially of the Brewers, Badgers, Packers and the Green Bay Womens basketball teams. He was an avid golfer and recorded a hole-in-one on July 26, 2011. Allan also enjoyed playing cards with his entire family and especially enjoyed going hunting and fishing with his brother, Ken. Allan attended St. Bernard Catholic Church in Appleton and he was a member of the American Legion Post #60 of Kimberly. Survivors include his wife, Carol; a daughter, Traci Mentz, Green Bay; two brothers: Mike (Linda) Mentz, Laona, WI, Ken (Barb) Mentz, Appleton; two sisters: Kay (Tom) Brunette, Sherwood, Robin (Todd) Oxley, Oshkosh; four brothers-in-law: Don (Gretchen) Landskron, Las Vegas, Carl (Chris) Landskron, Mesquite, NV, David (Patti) Landskron, Winter Haven, FL, Steven Landskron, North Highland, CA; and a sister-in-law, June Mueller, Appleton. He was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law: Carl and Jeanette Landskron. A memorial service will be held at Noon on Wednesday, November 28, 2012, at Menashas Westgor Funeral Home, with Fr. Dennis Ryan officiating, and the Neenah/Menasha Fire Rescue Honor Guard in attendance. The visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service. Full military rites will follow with the US Army and the Kimberly American Legion William Verhagen Post #60 assisting. In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established in his name. The family would like to thank all of Allans Dr.s and nurses for their care and compassion.
