Obituary

Dean Arnold Felker, Dean the Barber , passed away into the arms of his Lord and Savior on Saturday, February 14, 2009 at Theda Clark Regional Medical Center. Dean was born on August 10, 1940 to the late Arnold and Geraldine Felker. He attended school in Peshtigo where he graduated from Peshtigo High School in 1958. Dean participated in all sports, but excelled in track and field. Dean was a champion pole vaulter setting the state record in 1957, which he was very proud of. He went on to graduate from the Green Bay Vocational School of Barbering in 1960. He began his barbering career in Phelps before relocating to Menasha. He owned and operated Deans Barbershop on Main Street in Menasha until ill health forced him to retire in 2005 after 45 years in business. He was united in marriage to Sharon Brusewitz on October 20, 1962. Dean enjoyed spending time with his family, especially at the cabin. He was a gifted storyteller and told many tall tales around the campfire. Dean loved the outdoors, whether hunting, fishing, gardening, feeding and watching the birds or just enjoying nature. He was also known to occasionally play the one arm bandits at the casinos. Dean is lovingly survived by his bride of 46 years, Sharon Felker; daughters: Stacy Lake of Combined Locks, Wendy (Owen) Muthig of New London; grandchildren: Adam, Erin and Katrina Lake of Combined Locks, Kelsey and Hunter Muthig of New London; sister, Jacqueline Mulhern of Madison, sisters-in-law: Carol (Sam) May of Peshtigo, Nancy (Donald) Schnasa of Green Bay, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He is further survived by his very special 4 legged friends who gave him such great joy, Gus, Chester, Haylee and Woody. Dean is preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, February 17, 2009, 6:00 p.m. at Menashas WESTGOR FUNERAL HOME, with the Rev. David Skarsten officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until the hour of service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the charity of your choice. Deans family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the doctors, nurses and care givers who provided such excellent caring and compassionate care to Dean during his illness.

Aunt Sharon, Stacy and Wendy: Our thoughts and prayers are with you! I shared with Grace that Uncle Dean gave me my first fishing pole for a birthday present one year and we went fishing at the cabin. I will remeber him with fondness. Love, Cindy
