EVELYN COON

On January 20, 2011 Evelyn passed away at Clement Manor Health Center in Greenfield, WI. Evelyn was born on October 31, 1923 to the late Emil and Alma Schmidli. She was a lifelong resident of the Neenah/Menasha area. Evelyn devoted a large part of her life to the care of children. After attending school, she was hired by Theda Clark Hospital as a L.P.N. in the baby nursery in 1965, then during the start of the Intensive Care Nursery Unit, and worked in that capacity until her retirement in 1984. A few short months after her retirement Evelyn took on a new challenge: For nearly ten years she cared for newborns in her home as a foster parent. During this time she cared for many babies until their adoptions. A passion of Evelyns since her early days at Theda Clark was to ensure that all the patients in the Intensive Care Nursery had caps and booties, which she personally knitted, a hobby that she continued until just recent years. She is survived by her children: Debra Coon, Greenfield, Michael (Melissa) Coon, Neenah; grandchildren: Alex and Alivia; her sisters: Mildred and Louise Schmidli; and sister-in-law, Nancy Schmidli, all of Neenah. She is further survived by many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers: Emil and Earl Schmidli; and sister-in-law, Becky Schmidli. The Funeral Service for Evelyn will be held on Monday, January 24, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Neenah with Rev. Paul L. Holte officiating. Friends will be received at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of service. Interment will be in the Shrine of Heaven Mausoleum at Greenlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations in Evelyns name are appreciated to St. Paul Lutheran Church where she was a life-long member. The family wishes to express their thanks to Clement Manor Health Center and Odyssey Hospice for their compassionate care of Evelyn.
