JOYCE CHASE

Joyce passed with her family present following a courageous battle with colon cancer on Thursday, December 31st 2015. Born on January 16, 1930 in a home in Oconto Falls, Wisconsin to Alice and William Lust, Joyce was a loving mother, grandmother and friend.

Joyce graduated from Appleton High School and the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh with a teaching degree in English and Mathematics. She married Arthur Chase on Thanksgiving Day, 1952. As an Air Force wife, she was stationed in Reno, Nevada eventually settling in Neenah. She continued to nurture her family and her teaching career. Joyce was a homebound teacher for the Neenah Joint School District. Following her teaching career, Joyce worked for Kimberly-Clark, retiring in 1995. She inspired all her children and grandchildren to pursue a college education like herself.

Joyce was a charter member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Neenah. She loved reading and shared that love through the Neenah Public Library book club, a book club with her granddaughters, and the St. Mark's Bible Circle. Joyce had an appreciation for music and she inspired her family to pursue musical interests both in and out of school as she followed her passion through the St. Marks church choir and the Y-Nots with her close friends. She enjoyed her many travels during her life and visited every state except for Rhode Island. She had a love of wildlife, especially birds, and she possessed an uncanny ability to attract and observe beautiful animals on her adventures.

Joyce is survived by three children: Daniel (friend, Gail) in New London; Rebecca (Chris) Szymonski in Neenah; and Andrew (friend, Julie) in Bay Area, California. Joyce is survived by grandchildren: Adrian Szymonski, Sophia Szymonski, Tory Chase, and Isaac Chase. She is also survived by her sister, LaVerne (William) King; and three nieces: Nancy (Kevin) Murphy, Barbara (Bruce) Edwards and Kathy King. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arthur Chase; and her grandchildren: Thaddeus Szymonski and Joseph Chase.

Memorial contributions will be made in her name to the International Children's Fund, the Neenah Public Library and St. Mark's Lutheran Church.

A funeral service for Joyce will be held at 4:00 P.M. on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 140 S. Green Bay Rd., Neenah, Rev. Jim Wilson officiating. The visitation will take place at church from 2:00 P.M. until the hour of service.
