Obituary
Donald D. Detra, age 89, of Neenah passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center, Neenah. He was born on November 24, 1928 in Iron Mountain, Michigan, son of the late Clyde and Marion (Hanson) Detra. After High School, Donald proudly served his country with the U.S. Army for two years. Don became a resident of the Fox Valley in 1948 when he accepted a job with Kimberly-Clark in Kimberly, then came to Neenah in the fall of that year, serving a three year apprenticeship. Don retired from K-C as a Millwright after 42 years of service. He was a member of 482 Local Union of Paper Workers. On September 6, 1958 he married Ardyss Moser in New London, Wisconsin. Their marriage was blessed with four children, and almost 60 wonderful years. Don was a member of First United Methodist Church of Neenah/Menasha. He volunteered for various organizations in the Fox Valley. Don enjoyed square dancing with his wife, camping, traveling, hiking, and biking.
He will be sadly missed by his wife, Ardyss; daughers: Tina (Jim) Krueger, Oshkosh; Carla Steward, Neenah; Rusty (Laurie) Detra, Fremont; Roy (Paula) Detra, Stoughton; grandchildren: Haley Detra; Cierra Benish; Myles and Logan Steward; Brad and Bill Nelson; great-grandchildren: Drie Fahser; Brayden, Bentely, and Buxton Nelson; Graysen Boe; Ryker Benish; Lyla Raith; brother: Thomas (Lindy) Detra, Laudon, TN; sister, Rev. Ramona Cowling, Ann Arbor, MI. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Gordon Walters.
A Memorial Service for Don will be held on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church (108 W. Doty Ave., Neenah) with Revs. Rebecca Henry and Tony Fuller officiating. Friends will be received on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service directly at the church. Military Honors will be performed by members of the U.S. Army and the Neenah/Menasha Veterans Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in Don's name to benefit the American Heart Association.
