Obituary
George Elwood, 84, passed away at Island Shores on January 31, 2018. He was born November 6, 1933, son of Alpheus and Martha Elwood. He was a loving husband, father, grandpa, and great-grandpa. He married the love of his life, Carol, on March 6, 1954. They had celebrated 60 years of marriage prior to her passing in 2014.
George lived in Neenah his entire life. After high school, he proudly served in the Navy for two years. He worked at American Can for 42 years, first as a pressman, then as a supervisor in later years. After retirement, George worked for Bergstrom Automotive where he enjoyed shuffling cars from dealership to dealership. George enjoyed bowling and fishing, watching the Brewers, Badgers, and especially the Green Bay Packers. Before having a stroke, George enjoyed watching his grandsons bowl on Saturday mornings, and loved watching them play baseball, especially since he was a pitcher himself while in high school.
He will be sadly missed by his daughters: Julie (Jeff) Laabs and Vickie (Dave) Davidson; grandchildren: Adam (Kari) Davidson; Brian (special friend Courtney Hess) Davidson; and Rebecca (fiancé Derreck Gruenstern) Laabs; and great-grandson Kameron Gruenstern.
A memorial service for George will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at Neenah's Westgor Funeral Home, with Chaplain Cliff Mast officiating. A visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. until the hour of service. Military Honors will follow.
George's family would like to give thanks to all of the staff at Island Shores for all of the care and compassion given to George over the years he lived there; you all truly were part of his family. Also, a special thanks to Ascension Hospice for all of their care.
George's family would also like everyone to familiarize themselves with the warning signs of a stroke. FAST: Face drooping, Arm weakness; Speech difficulty; Time to call 911. George suffered a stroke in 2003.
